Free Civil Legal Aid for Low Income People From MidPenn Legal Services
MidPenn Legal Services is a nonprofit public interest law firm that provides free civil legal services to low income residents and to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in 18 counties in Central Pennsylvania, including Berks County. It provides free legal representation in civil cases, which are legal problems other than criminal charges.
Financial eligibility for most services is based on the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines published by the Department of Health and Human Services, which are equivalent to 125% of poverty. The guidelines are updated annually. These are the 2026 income limits by household size, monthly and then annual:
- 1 person: $1,663 a month, $19,950 a year
- 2 people: $2,254 a month, $27,050 a year
- 3 people: $2,846 a month, $34,150 a year
- 4 people: $3,438 a month, $41,250 a year
- 5 people: $4,029 a month, $48,350 a year
- 6 people: $4,621 a month, $55,450 a year
- 7 people: $5,213 a month, $62,550 a year
- 8 people: $5,804 a month, $69,650 a year
