Democracy in Peril: Looking at America in 2026

About the class
This Seniors College session at Alvernia University brings together a panel of university faculty to talk about the pressures facing American democracy. The discussion covers constitutional government, elections, public trust and the rule of law, along with how democratic institutions have shifted in recent years and how democratic backsliding shows up in other countries. It closes by looking at what citizens can do to support accountability, participation and civic life.
The panel includes Victoria Williams, Ph.D., Professor of Political Science; Kevin Donnelly, Ph.D., Professor of History; and Nicholas Nicoletti, Ph.D., Director of the Ph.D. in Leadership program. Travis Berger, Ph.D., Applied Leadership Fellow, presents. An optional box lunch is offered so people can keep talking with the panelists afterward.
