Children and teens can read out loud to a visiting therapy dog at the Wyomissing Public Library. Pick a spot in the library, choose a book, and settle in next to a furry friend. Petting the dog instead of reading is welcome too.
The idea is simple: a dog is a patient listener. It will not laugh or correct a reader who stumbles over a word, and it will lie nearby and enjoy the story. Over time, readers come to link reading with the good feeling of spending time with the dog, and they start to see reading in a positive way.
All ages are welcome, and the session meets in the late afternoon. No registration is required, so families can simply come to the library at 9 Reading Blvd during the program hour. Bring a favorite book or pick one off the shelves after you arrive.
