A full seamless aluminum gutter replacement on a typical Berks house runs about $1,000 to $3,800 as of 2026, and half-round or copper starts around $6,000 on the one Berks-area price list that carries them. Gutter guards only pay back against cleaning if you'd otherwise pay for two cleanings a year for several years running. So if your gutters are pulling off the fascia (the board along the roof edge they're screwed to) and someone just quoted you guards, these are the numbers to have before you sign. You'll find the installers among the roofers in Berks County.

How much does gutter replacement cost in Berks County?

A gutter job is priced by the foot, so a simple ranch sits at the low end and a large house with many eaves and angles runs to $5,900 to $8,500 for 5-inch gutters on Joyland's list. Here are the prices Berks-area installers print on their own sites (Joyland is in Elizabethtown, Lancaster County, and serves Berks); a quote for your house will differ from every one of them.

Prices as each company posts them on its own site; a quote for your house will differ.

The whole-house rows sit inside the range I opened with; the cleaning rows come back when we get to guards.

By the foot, installed aluminum runs about $3 to $15 per linear foot nationally, and tearing off the old gutters adds $1 to $2 a foot. To guess your footage on a detached house, divide the square footage by ten, so a 2,000-square-foot house needs about 200 feet; a rowhouse has far fewer feet, so count only the roof edges that carry one.

Now, the gutter that's pulling away. If a gutter is drooping or pulling away, that's debris packed in it, the weight of standing water, or fasteners that have let go, and it doesn't always mean the whole run is finished. Mast Roofing in Oley installs seamless aluminum and copper and gives free estimates.

Those are three different jobs: a leak sealed or a loose section reattached is Mast's repair row in the table, a sagging piece on Joyland's list is $300 to $800, and a gutter that has come off and has to be re-hung is the higher Joyland row. Have someone look before you price the whole house.

Seamless or sectional, and what size gutter do you need?

Seamless gutters are formed on site from one coil of aluminum to the length of each stretch of roof edge, so the only joints are at the corners and at the outlets where the downspouts attach. Sectional gutters are pre-cut pieces joined every few feet, cheaper to buy and with more places to leak, which is why seamless costs more up front and tends to mean fewer leaks over the years.

So which size? K-style is the flat-backed profile on most houses, and half-round is the rounded one on some older homes. Five-inch is the standard width; six-inch is the upgrade for a big roof. Gutters Marketplace in Sinking Spring installs 6-inch K-style seamless with 3-by-4-inch downspouts, on the reasoning that six-inch gutters handle more roof runoff than standard five-inch.

On Joyland's list the 6-inch version of the same simple house costs about $300 more than the 5-inch.

What do downspouts and drainage add to the price?

Downspouts run about $7 to $14 a foot installed, and you need one for every 30 to 40 feet of gutter. An above-ground extension costs $5 to $20 and a splash block $10 to $20, and the point of both is to put the water three to four feet or more from the foundation.

Where should the water go? Away from the foundation, every downspout; a gutter that dumps at the wall is how a dry basement becomes a wet one, and if yours is already wet, our sump pump post says when the fix is grading and gutters rather than a pump. The Brothers That Just Do Gutters, an Allentown-based gutter-only franchise that serves Berks County, installs 5-, 6- and 7-inch seamless gutters, runs underground drainage, and offers free estimates with no-money-down financing for qualified buyers.

How much do gutter guards cost?

Installed gutter guards run $6 to $13 per linear foot nationally, about $9 on average. Joyland's list for guards on existing gutters steps up by product, from a screen at $12 to $16 a foot to a fully enclosed guard at $25 to $30.

The big-name systems land near $40 a foot installed, about $8,000 on a typical house.

Are gutter guards worth it against yearly cleaning?

The middle tier on the table, a home of 1,601 to 2,800 square feet, cleans for $250 a visit, and twice a year that's $500.

Now price a 200-foot run of guards. Screens at $6 to $16 a foot (the national range and one local list) come to $1,200 to $3,200, so they cover their cost in about two and a half to six and a half years if you never clean again.

A fully enclosed system at $25 to $30 a foot is $5,000 to $6,000, ten to twelve years if you never clean again. The big-name systems near $40 a foot, about $8,000 on the same house, take sixteen years to pay back if you never clean again. At the national average of about $168 a visit, every one of those paybacks runs about 50 percent longer. And if nothing drops into your gutters and you don't pay for cleanings now, there's no cleaning bill for guards to pay back.

Most people don't stop cleaning entirely, though. Among homeowners with guards, nearly 30 percent say they never clean; before the guards, under 9 percent did. Guards save about $120 to $500 a year in cleanings.

So at best an $8,000 quote buys sixteen years of not thinking about the gutters, and that best case assumes you never clean again and sit at the $500 end of what guards save. The question is whether that's what you want to buy.

If your quote bundles new gutters and guards into one price, pull it apart: new seamless gutters at $1,000 to $3,800 plus 200 feet of screens at $1,200 to $3,200 is what a bundle on a simple house should add up to.

What does gutter cleaning cost, and when should you do it?

Nationally a cleaning runs $119 to $234, about $168, or 95 cents to $2.25 per linear foot depending on the height of the house, with the downspouts another $50 to $100 if you want them flushed.

When should you do it? Twice a year: late spring after the seeds and pollen, and late fall after the leaves are off. Berks leaves come down through November (Kutztown and Maxatawny Township schedule their leaf pickups from the middle of October into late November), so the fall cleaning belongs in late November, after the last of them, not in October. Ice dams are a roof-and-attic problem, not a gutter problem, and our winter guide's ice dam section covers them. The rest of the twice-a-year routine is in our summer services guide.

Questions people ask about gutters in Berks County.

Do I need a permit to replace gutters in Berks County?

Most of the time, no. Spring Township's no-permit list includes gutters and downspouts, and West Reading exempts replacement of exterior rainwater gutters and leaders. Wyomissing exempts gutter replacement too, but replacing any rain leader that ties into the public stormwater system requires a UCC residential permit there. Some townships do require one, so ask yours first.

Do I need a written contract for a gutter job?

Under Pennsylvania's home improvement law, any job of more than $500 needs a written contract signed by both sides. A contractor doing less than $5,000 of home improvement work in a year is exempt from registering with the Attorney General; everyone else must be registered and put the number on the contract; our post on checking a contractor's registration shows the lookup, which takes about a minute. On a contract of more than $5,000 the deposit can't exceed one-third of the price plus special-order materials, and you have three business days to cancel after signing, except in the emergency situations the law carves out.

Will I need new fascia boards too?

Sometimes; rotted fascia shows itself when the old gutter comes off. Replacing it runs $13 to $16 a foot on Joyland's list and about $10 a foot nationally, so ask for it as a per-foot line on the quote.

Do gutter guards mean I never have to clean my gutters?

No, and one installer says so itself: Gutters Marketplace's line is that no responsible system should be sold as permanently maintenance-free. About 41 percent of homeowners with guards still clean once a year, so treat a guard as a way to clean less often.

Get two quotes on the same scope and compare them line by line; a quote you can compare names:

  • the linear feet of gutter and the size, 5-inch or 6-inch;
  • the number of downspouts and where each one drains;
  • whether the old gutters get hauled away, in writing;
  • fascia repair as a per-foot price;
  • guards, if you want them, as a separate line you can take or leave.

Several of the roofers in Berks County do both roofs and gutters: The Helping Company in Reading gives free estimates and Eckroth's Roofing Solutions in Fleetwood free inspections, and both install seamless gutters. If the roof is due too, our roof replacement cost post has those numbers. Make the calls this week, before the leaves come down.
