There isn't one best lawyer in Berks County, because the lawyer you'd want for a custody filing isn't the one you'd want after a rear-end crash. What the county has is a handful of firms for each kind of problem that the lists that name lawyers (Super Lawyers and Expertise.com), Berks County Living's consumer survey and the firms' own clients keep naming. I've grouped fifteen below by practice area, with what each site says it handles and what its clients praise. More of the county's firms, with address, phone and reviews, are on the county lawyers page.

The ten above are a sample. Fifteen firms follow, grouped by the kind of problem, with ten more in a short list at the end, and nothing is ranked; if you're not sure which kind of lawyer your problem needs, how to find a lawyer for your problem sorts that out. Most of these offices cluster around the courthouse on Court Street in Reading and in Wyomissing's office corridors, with a few in Blandon, Morgantown and northern Berks.

One of the firm's lawyers is on Super Lawyers' Rising Stars list for the Reading area in criminal defense.

Clients credit knowledge of the court process and the results. One wrote, "He explained the process in layman's terms and won an acquittal of all criminal charges!" Clients also value the client portal and app for case updates. If a charge is your problem tonight, our criminal attorneys list is the fuller list.

How we picked the best lawyers in Berks County.

The picks rest on those three lists that name Berks lawyers (Berks County Living's People's Choice survey, Super Lawyers' Reading and Wyomissing pages and Expertise.com's Reading lists), on each firm's own website for what it handles and how it charges, and on the reviews behind the Berks law-firm listings on BerksConnect for the praise that repeats. Every firm here has an office in Berks County and was open as of October 2026. Nothing is ranked and nobody paid for a place; Expertise.com's featured entries are paid placements on its lists, so its lists are read here as listings, not ratings. Pick the two or three whose practice matches your problem, call for the consultation each offers, and keep the county lawyers page open for the rest.

Questions people ask about lawyers in Berks County.

Who is the best lawyer in Berks County?

It depends on the problem, which is why this post is grouped by practice area, not ranked. The one countywide designation we could read is Berks County Living's People's Choice law firm, Kozloff Stoudt for 2026 and Barley Snyder for 2025, and that's a survey of consumers, not a judgment about your case.

How much does a lawyer cost in Berks County?

A free first consultation is common in criminal practices and offered by some family and estate firms. In injury and workers' compensation, the usual arrangement is a contingency fee, a share of what's recovered and nothing if nothing is recovered. Few firms print a dollar figure, and Pennsylvania's rules for lawyers require how the fee is figured, in writing, for a new client. The details are in what lawyers cost in Berks County.

Yes. MidPenn Legal Services, the free legal aid office, and the Berks County Bar Association's referral service (610-375-4591, 544 Court Street, Reading) are the two places to start; free and low-cost legal help in Berks County lists them with phones and who qualifies. The lawyers on the Bar's referral panel must be licensed, actively practicing in Berks County and in good standing with the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. This post is general information about who practices what; a question about your own case goes to a lawyer or one of those two.

How do I check that a Berks lawyer is licensed?

The Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania runs a "Look Up an Attorney" search that shows a lawyer's status and any public discipline. It takes a minute on a phone.
