Best Steakhouses in Berks County and Near Reading PA

A guide to the steakhouses and prime rib dining rooms of Berks County, with what to order at each and the nights some of them serve it.

Berks County lost its fine dining steakhouse when Willoughby's on Park closed. So the map here is a different shape than you expect: the steaks worth a night out come from the national chains that do it every night, from an upscale dining room, from an Irish pub on a Wednesday, and from country restaurants that put a prime rib on for part of the week.

How we picked: we read the review record and our own indexed menus for the places in this county that put a steak or a prime rib on the plate, then checked what each restaurant publishes about itself. The order is our own.

Texas Roadhouse on Paper Mill Road. The steak you can count on.

This is our default when the plan is simply a steak. You want it cooked for you, you want to know exactly what you are getting, and the board tells you: Hand-Cut Sirloin, Dallas Filet, Ft. Worth Ribeye, Bone-In Ribeye, Filet Medallions, and the Porterhouse T-Bone.

One reviewer went big and was rewarded: "I got the 20 oz bone-in ribeye... cooked perfectly, and it was delicious and so juicy!" Another said both steaks at the table "were cooked exactly the way we ordered them."

Peanuts and a beer while you wait. A bag of peanuts still lands on the table, though the shells no longer go on the floor: a restaurant trade publication reported in November 2024 that there is now a small bucket on the table for them.

The rolls have their own following. One reviewer said they were "awesome like always," and another described the bread as always warm and sweet.

One practical thing. It does not take reservations in the usual sense, so go early or put your name in ahead.

Midtown Sip, Savor, Social in West Reading. The steak dinner as an occasion.

This is the upscale answer, the room where a steak dinner turns into an occasion. It sits at 600 Penn Ave in West Reading, and one reviewer called it "an absolutely beautiful space to enjoy a cocktail and a meal." Another praised "Beautiful décor and a warm, inviting vibe."

Clear up one thing before you book, because people assume otherwise. It is not a Brazilian steakhouse and not a churrascaria, and there is no all-you-can-eat skewer service: its own site calls it Italian fine dining, you order your steak from a menu, and the steak section is titled "The Argentinian Grill." The one Brazilian element is a single cut, the picanha, listed as a traditional Brazilian cut, fire-grilled.

The bone-in ribeye is billed as its most-loved cut, grilled and seared to seal in flavor, and the teres major is described simply as exceptionally tender and flavorful. The T-bone porterhouse is a 29 day aged premium cut that the menu describes as combining the tenderness of a filet with the rich flavor of a New York strip. Every steak in that section comes with a trio of house sauces: chimichurri, roasted bell pepper and green peppercorn.

The bar is not an afterthought. There is a cocktail program, and one reviewer wrote that "The cocktails were absolute perfection... beautifully crafted, balanced, and clearly made by someone who knows what they're doing." On the plates, one reviewer said the meats "were cooked beautifully, flavorful, and satisfying."

It is closed Monday. Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday it runs 11am to 9pm, and on Friday and Saturday it stays open to midnight.

Outback Steakhouse on Paper Mill Road. Steaks under the lunchtime windows.

This one stands on its own merits. Its listing describes an Australian-themed chain serving steaks and seafood, and one reviewer gave the verdict that matters: "The steak was cooked so well I wanted to speak to the chef!!!"

It is a good daytime room, too. One reviewer noted the abundant natural light and all the windows, and called it a good spot for lunch.

You will find it at 2789 Paper Mill Rd in Reading. Its own location page lists it as open Monday through Thursday 11 to 10, Friday and Saturday 11 to 11, and Sunday 11 to 9.

Ganly's Irish Pub & Restaurant in Sinking Spring. Wednesday is prime rib night.

Wednesday is prime rib night, and that is the reason to put this one in the calendar. Its own specials page lists Wednesday as prime rib in a standing weekly rotation that runs Monday through Sunday.

Come another night and there is still steak on the table. The rosemary filet is a six ounce filet with a rosemary garlic butter, and the steak frites goes over house fries with a whiskey peppercorn sauce. Prime rib does not appear on the printed menu, which fits with it being a Wednesday event.

It is at 500 Brownsville Rd in Sinking Spring, open Monday through Thursday and Sunday 11am to 9pm, Friday and Saturday 11am to 10pm.

Meraki Manor, Birdsboro. The prime rib to plan around.

This is the prime rib you build a month around, because the kitchen serves it the third week of the month only. One reviewer called it "The best prime rib I have ever had!" Another drew the circle wider: "Best prime rib within an hour of the Lehigh Valley."

Call ahead and confirm which week you are looking at, because that one detail decides your whole night. The indexed menu also carries a filet mignon, and the restaurant's own site describes a menu built on steak, chicken and seafood.

It is on Old River Road, open Thursday to Saturday, 3pm to 10pm. Three nights a week means reservations are the sensible move.

Giannotti's Country Manor, Fleetwood. Prime rib Thursday through Sunday.

Four nights out of seven is a generous window for prime rib, and this is the place that offers it. Its own site says the prime rib is served Thursday through Sunday, in a 16-ounce portion and a larger "King" portion. Our indexed menu shows the same Thursday-to-Sunday listing at 16 ounces.

One reviewer put it plainly: "The prime rib is decadent! Thick and juicy - cooked to order." Another mentioned the weekend prime rib alongside a personal favorite, the clam chowder.

Come on a night outside that window and the charbroiled filet mignon and charbroiled chopped sirloin are waiting. The dining room sits on Pricetown Road, open Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday 11 to 9, Friday and Saturday 11 to 10.

Stampede Barbecue, Mohnton. Prime rib on Thursdays only.

Here is the midweek answer nobody expects from a smokehouse: our indexed menu lists prime rib on Thursdays only, 4pm to 8pm. If Thursday is the night you have free, put this one in the calendar and go early in that window.

Smoke is the house strength the rest of the week. One reviewer said, "Arguably the best brisket and pork ribs I have ever had." The beer brewed on site draws its own notice, with one reviewer calling the wood-fired brewed ale awesome.

It sits on Morgantown Road in Mohnton.

Stouch Tavern, Womelsdorf. The filet worth the drive west.

The filet is the reason to point the car west. One reviewer described a whole table ordering it: "Each of us had Filet Mignon done medium-rare. It was so tasty and almost melted in our mouths." Another was briefer, calling it the "Best filet in town!"

Womelsdorf is the western end of the county, out on West High Street. That is a drive from Reading, and this is one of the plates that earns it.

Mom Chaffe's Cellarette on Tulpehocken Avenue. The filet in an Italian dining room.

The filet is the sleeper order in a room known for pasta. One reviewer said, "Best filet mignon, the mushroom sherry sauce was sooo good." The indexed menu lists it as Filetto con Funghi.

The Italian side is the reputation. One reviewer called it one of the best places serving Italian in the area, and the house desserts collect their own praise: one reviewer had the creme brulee and said it was perfect and completed the whole experience.

Windsor Inn at Shillington. Friday and Saturday steak specials.

Go Friday or Saturday. Those are the two nights the inn's own site posts seafood and steak specials, with burger night on Wednesday and homemade pasta on Thursday, plus happy hour from 4:30 to 6:30 every night.

The filet is what people write about afterward. One reviewer said, "Best filet mignon ever. Will definitely go back for more." Another wrote that they loved the filet mignon with peppercorn sauce.

One logistics tip: the hours posted on that site are labeled winter hours, so call for the current ones before you head over to West Lancaster Avenue.

Where to buy a steak in Berks County and cook it yourself.

Some nights the right answer is a hot pan at home. Fairgrounds Farmer's Market at 2934 North 5th Street Highway in Reading is where to go for the raw material, open Thursday and Friday 8am to 7pm and Saturday 8am to 4pm.

Smoketown Meats is a stand inside that market. Its own site describes premium Black Angus prime and choice grade beef, and its market listing says the meats are cut and prepared daily, and its catalogue names a New York strip, a boneless ribeye, filet mignon, a sirloin, a tomahawk ribeye and a flank steak.

Lorah Family Meats has been in the same market since November 2011, carrying a full line of beef steaks along with roasts, brisket, short ribs and beef quarters, and it will vacuum seal meats on request. Several other meat counters share the building, so give yourself a slow lap before you decide.

Which Berks restaurants are Fine Dining nominees.

The Reading Eagle Readers' Choice ballot dates its voting round August 16 to August 31, 2026, with results on October 11, 2026. It carries no steakhouse category, but its Fine Dining nominees are Austin's Restaurant & Bar, B2 Bistro + Bar, Dans at Green Hills, Mom Chaffe's Cellarette and Salute Ristorante Italiano. The same ballot runs a Steak Sandwich category, which is a different thing entirely from a steak dinner.
