About the event
The Wanamaker, Kempton & Southern Railroad turns a fall afternoon into a ride through the hills of northern Berks County, where the tree line does the heavy lifting in early October. Seats face big open views of farmland and woods, so a camera is worth bringing along.
This trip includes an orchard stop at County Line. Riders can step off the train, pick their own apples, and climb back aboard for the return to Kempton, which makes the outing part scenic ride and part harvest errand. Departures leave on the hour at 1, 2, 3, and 4 p.m., so families can pick a time that fits the rest of the day.
The station sits at 42 Community Center Drive in Kempton, an easy drive from Reading, Hamburg, and the Lehigh Valley. Plan ahead for restrooms before boarding, since the train cars do not have them, and dress for an open autumn afternoon in the country.
Hosted by WK&S Railroad on BerksConnect.
