Handbells fill the sanctuary at St. John's (Hain's) UCC when the Annie M. Gaul Concert Series welcomes an afternoon of ringing led by Hyosang Park. The program opens with music from participants in that day's handbell workshop, performing under Park's direction after a day of study together.
The second half belongs to Philadelphia Bronze, an auditioned ensemble that rings across a wide span of handbells and handchimes and is known for its precision and expressive style. Directed by Park, the group performs in and around the Philadelphia area and draws ringers from as far as New Jersey and Lancaster. It is a chance to hear just how much range and color a table of bells can produce.
The Annie M. Gaul Concert Series is an outreach ministry of St. John's (Hain's) UCC, bringing chamber music, classical guitar, handbells, marimba, jazz, choral music and more to Berks County audiences. Concerts are free and supported by contributions and free-will offerings, so neighbors of any musical background are welcome to come and listen.
