Cub Scout Merit Badge Day: Bears and Webelos
September 26, 2026 · 9:00 AM · Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, 1700 Hawk Mountain Rd, Kempton · Open to Cub Scouts in the Bear and Webelos ranks; limited to 60 scouts

About the event
Cub Scouts in the Bear and Webelos ranks have a day of their own on the ridge at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary. Hawk Mountain educators and merit badge counselors lead the group out on the trails for a morning and afternoon of hiking, observing, and hands on learning in one of Pennsylvania's best known spots for watching birds of prey.
Bears work toward Bear Habitat and Balancing Bears, while Webelos take on Webelos Walkabout and Math on the Trail. Those adventures lean on skills the mountain is made for: preparing for a walk outdoors, packing the Cub Scout essentials, noticing wildlife signs and patterns along the way, and practicing Leave No Trace so the next group finds the trail just as good.
Late September is a fine time to be on the Kittatinny Ridge, with fall migration underway and cooler air settling over the forest. Trails here are rocky and uneven in places, so sturdy shoes and weather appropriate clothing will serve scouts well.
