Heritage Day Fall Festival at the Daniel Boone Homestead

The Daniel Boone Homestead turns its grounds over to colonial America for an afternoon of demonstrations, trades, and fall activities. Blacksmithing, gunsmithing, tinsmithing, leatherworking, gardening, spinning, and open hearth cooking are all on the schedule, along with an 18th century fashion display. Living history interpreters talk about the colonial militia and dragoons, and visitors can join a muster activity using wooden dummy guns and swords.

Hands-on stations invite children and adults to try candle dipping, quill pen writing, and colonial toys and games, with pumpkin painting rounding out the fall fun. Stone House History returns with tape weaving and wood carving, colonial musician Robert Mouland performs on historic instruments alongside his dancing puppets, and the Brandywine Fife and Drum Corps shares music and the role the fife and drum played during the American Revolution. Coffee with a Colonial joins the lineup to explain the place that beverage held in colonial life, and artisan craft and specialty food vendors are set up across the site.

Both historic houses are open for touring. Inside the Boone House you can see the Apothecary display of period medical instruments and visit the spring cellar, the oldest part of the structure, then stop by the laundress and tailor in the Boone Yard before exploring the three-room Bertolet Log House and its early Germanic architecture. The festival is presented by the Daniel Boone Homestead Associates as part of the America250 celebration.
