Introductory Martial Arts Class (Ages 6-Adult)
October 19, 2026 · 5:45 PM · Yocum Institute for Arts Education, 3000 Penn Avenue, West Lawn · Ages 6 through adult; required one time introductory class for all new students

About the event
East Coast Karate opens its doors at the Yocum Institute for Arts Education with a single introductory session built for anyone new to the program, from younger students to adults. This one time class is the starting point for every new student, and it offers a clear look at how the traditional martial arts curriculum works before anyone commits to a schedule.
The program focuses on mind, body, and spirit together. Students learn practical skills for protecting themselves along with the confidence to use them, and the training builds focus, self discipline, respect, responsibility, and persistence that carry over into school, work, and daily life.
Come in comfortable exercise clothes, meaning long pants and a t-shirt. Participants train in bare feet, and no uniform is needed for this introductory session. Instructors will talk with families and students during the class about which ongoing class section fits best, so you leave knowing what the next step looks like.
