IX brings imaginative realism to GoggleWorks Center for the Arts in Reading, filling the building with paintings, drawings, and sculpture that pair classical technique with mythological, surreal, and visionary subjects. The juried Main Show gathers more than 90 artists working in traditional media, and their work spreads across 18,000 square feet on three floors.
Visitors can move at their own pace through the galleries, meet the artists behind the pieces, and catch impromptu demonstrations along the way. The gathering draws collectors, working artists, students, and people who simply want to see something they have not seen before, and it runs across five days of programming.
If you have followed fantasy and visionary art for years, this is a rare chance to see original work up close. If you are new to the genre, it is an easy introduction, with plenty of room to wander and let the pieces make their case.
