Surface of Survival brings no prep racing to Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton. Unlike traditional drag racing, no prep runs take place on a track surface left as it is, without the rubber and traction compound that normally gets laid down before a pass. Drivers have to manage their power carefully and keep the car pointed straight, which makes for a very different kind of side by side competition.
Maple Grove Raceway is a familiar stop for Berks County motorsports fans, with a quarter mile strip, grandstand seating, and plenty of room to walk the pits and get close to the machinery. Expect big horsepower cars, plenty of noise, and rounds of racing that come down to driver skill as much as engine output.
Check the raceway's website for the day's schedule and any updates before you head out. Dress for the weather, since late October at the track can turn cool once the sun goes down.
