Pro hockey returns to downtown Reading when the Royals host the Trenton Ironhawks at Santander Arena, with the puck dropping at 7:00 PM. The Royals skate in the ECHL as the affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms, so the roster is stocked with players working their way up the ladder.
The visitors are one of the newest names in the league. The Ironhawks arrived for the 2026-27 ECHL season after the Utah Grizzlies franchise relocated to Trenton, New Jersey, where they play at CURE Insurance Arena and skate as an affiliate of the New York Islanders. Team officials have said the Ironhawks name points to Trenton's industrial roots and the strength of the community there. With Trenton a short drive across the region, this matchup has the makings of a natural rivalry.
Saturday night games at Santander Arena are a familiar outing for Berks County families, with fast action on the ice, music and between-period fun, and a downtown location at 700 Penn Street that puts dinner and the game on the same block.
