The Reading Royals welcome the Wheeling Nailers to Santander Arena for a Sunday afternoon of ECHL hockey, with puck drop at 3:00 PM. The Royals skate as the ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, so the ice is full of players working their way toward the next level.
This one doubles as the Kenpuppy Derby and Dog Toy Toss, the Royals' spin on Derby day. Dogs can come along with a dog ticket package, and local shelters and sanctuaries will be on hand with adoption opportunities. Fans are encouraged to bring their best Kentucky Derby hat and take part in the dog toy toss, which sends a pile of toys toward area animals in need of them.
Between the hats, the pups on the concourse and an afternoon start that works well for younger fans, it makes for an easy outing in downtown Reading. Arrive with time to walk the concourse, meet the shelter groups and get settled before the opening faceoff.
