The Reading Royals host the Worcester Railers at Santander Arena for a midweek North Division matchup. Reading skates as the ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms, so the purple sweaters often feature players working their way up the ladder toward Allentown and Philadelphia. Worcester brings its own group of prospects east from Massachusetts, having recently linked up with the St. Louis Blues organization.
It is Wild Wednesday at the arena, the Royals promotion built around getting more people downtown on a school night. Orange Zone seating is offered at a reduced rate, and college students can take advantage of a buy one, get one offer by showing a valid college ID or .edu email. Between that and a 7:00 PM puck drop, it works well for families and for students at Alvernia, Kutztown, Penn State Berks, and Reading Area Community College.
Expect the usual Royals game night in the 700 block of Penn Street: fast ECHL hockey, arena music, and in-game contests between periods. Doors open ahead of warmups if you want to catch the teams on the ice first.
