Respite Breaks for Caregivers of Adults With Disabilities From ProBerco
ProBerco provides respite as part of its Family Support Services, giving temporary overnight supervision of adults with disabilities so the person who normally cares for them can have a break. The break can be for a vacation, for the caregiver's own health and medical needs, or any other life situation the caregiver needs to attend to. Respite is described as primarily a benefit for the caregiver.
Respite is one of three Family Support Services, along with companion services and habilitation services. Family Support Services assist people living independently in their own home or living with their parents or caregivers. Support is given one-to-one, and the services a person receives are determined by that person's Individual Support Plan, known as an ISP. ProBerco Direct Support Professionals, called DSPs, provide emotional support along with socialization and community engagement assistance. These supports are sometimes called in-home and community services, because they are provided in a person's home or in the community.
Respite is described for adults with disabilities. ProBerco's stated mission is to provide supports for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities living and working in Berks County.
To ask about Family Support Services, including respite, contact Kristy Vigo, Community Services Administrator, at kvigo@proberco.org. ProBerco's general contact number is 610-372-4637, and its general email is info@proberco.org. Office hours are listed two ways on the site, Monday-Friday 8am-4:00pm in the page footer and Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm on the contact page, so it is worth calling early in the day. The corporate mailing address is 840 William Lane, Reading, PA 19604-1551; this is the organization's office, not a place where respite is delivered.
There are few other details. The page does not say what respite costs, how many nights a caregiver can get, whether an Individual Support Plan or a referral must already be in place, or how long it takes to arrange, so ask when you contact the office.
