Weekly Group Mentoring Activities From Big Brothers Big Sisters of Berks County
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Berks County runs COUL, the Club of Unmatched Littles, a group mentoring program that holds supervised activities every week for children who are enrolled with the agency and waiting to be matched with a one-to-one Big Brother or Big Sister.
COUL is for those unmatched Littles. The activities differ each week and range from informational and educational to just plain fun. The program fosters resiliency, encourages goal setting, teaches life skills, and gives all COUL kids a caring and supportive environment. The children in COUL are waiting for a match in the One-To-One program, where an adult role model aged 19 or older is matched with a Little for at least one year and the pair meets a minimum of 8 to 10 hours per month.
COUL is also an option for adults who want to mentor but have time constraints. Volunteer mentors in this program are required to attend at least six activities a year, although many attend more.
To ask about a child taking part, or about volunteering, use the agency's general contact: 303 Windsor St., Centre Park, Reading, PA 19601, phone (610) 373-5544, email coul@bigsinberks.org. The Apply Today link on the page goes to bbbs.org/get-involved, the national Big Brothers Big Sisters get involved page.
The page gives few other details. It does not say where the weekly COUL activities are held or on what day and time, and it does not give an age range for the children. The agency's home page describes enrolling your child as a free program, but this page does not list any cost for COUL, so ask when you call.
