School Help for Students Experiencing Homelessness in Hamburg
Hamburg Area School District has a Homeless Liaison who works with students and families experiencing homelessness so that losing stable housing does not keep a child out of school. The liaison is Robert Marra, the Director of Special Education and Student Services, and this work sits inside the district's Student Services department, which also includes school counselors, school nurses, Title IX information and ECYEH (Youth Experiencing Homelessness) professionals.
It is for students and families experiencing homelessness. Under McKinney-Vento, the federal law covering students without stable housing, the district provides assistance with enrollment, transportation, school supplies and other essential services to remove barriers to education.
