Free School Breakfast and Meal Benefit Applications From Hamburg Area School District
The Hamburg Area School District Food Service Department serves breakfast and lunch in every district building, and breakfast is free for students at both the elementary and secondary levels.
Lunch costs $3.00 at the elementary level and $3.35 at the secondary level, with a second tier lunch at the secondary level for $3.75. Meals are planned to meet the nutrition standards of the USDA National School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs and include choices from the required meal components: whole grains, fruits, vegetables, protein foods, and milk. At the Middle School and High School, students can choose from a variety of meal options offered throughout the serving areas.
The Free and Reduced-Price Meal Program is meant to give all students access to school meals no matter what the household income is. In Pennsylvania, students who qualify for free or reduced-price meal benefits get school lunch at no cost. The district encourages families to complete a meal benefit application each school year, and to apply even if they are unsure whether they qualify. If your child cannot eat school meals because of a disability that restricts their diet, the Food Service Department is required to make accommodations. A recognized medical authority must complete and sign the Medical Plan of Care so the food service team at your child's school can make substitutions. Return the completed form to Jillian Bergman, Director of Food Services. Someone from the food service department will contact you to confirm the form was received and to discuss how accommodations will be made.
