Free Breakfast and Free or Reduced Price Lunch at Fleetwood Area Schools
The Fleetwood Area School District Food Service Department serves breakfast and lunch every day in each of its four schools, and breakfast is free for every student. Pennsylvania will continue providing free breakfast for all schools participating in the School Breakfast Program, and all students are eligible for free breakfast for the entire 2026-2027 school year. That applies only to the breakfast program.
Lunch still costs money unless your family qualifies for free or reduced price meals. Prices for the 2026-2027 school year are $3.10 at the elementary schools and $3.15 at the middle school and high school. The Free and Reduced Breakfast and Lunch Programs are available for families that meet the criteria required to qualify for free or reduced status, which follows National Breakfast and Lunch Program guidelines. The income limits are not printed here, so ask the Food Service Department if you are unsure whether you qualify.
A new application must be submitted every year, and families are asked to apply after July 1st of each school year and to wait until after July 2. You may apply at any time if there are income changes in the household. If you received a Direct Certification Letter for the upcoming school year from the Food Service Director, you do not need to apply. If your child is on Medicaid, you must still submit a free and reduced meal application every school year, because Medicaid does not automatically grant free or reduced meal status.
There are three ways to apply:
- Online at schoolcafe.com, which the district recommends for the fastest results. The digital version requires you to create an account.
- On the printable paper application posted in the documents section of the food services page.
- On a paper application from your school's office.
Paper applications must be returned to the Food Service Department Office. You may also submit a Free/Reduced Application to Nathan Shefter, Food Service Director, at nshefter@fleetwoodasd.org. Instructions and frequently asked questions about the application are posted with the forms.
Meals follow traditional menu planning with Offer vs. Serve, and each breakfast and lunch includes a serving of protein, a serving of grains, two servings of fruits and/or vegetables and a serving of milk. A meal must have at least 1/2 cup of fruit or vegetable and a minimum of three total items to be a complete meal, or ala carte prices will be charged.
All Fleetwood schools use a point-of-sale system with debit accounts for purchases. Funds can be deposited by cash, check, or online at schoolcafe.com, which charges a convenience fee for paying online that the district does not control; cash and checks avoid that fee. Ala carte items cannot be purchased if there is a negative balance in the child's account. Parents can monitor purchases, set low balance reminders and set restrictions in the SchoolCafe account, and there is a SchoolCafe app. Funds left at the end of the year roll over, and the account follows your child until graduation, when the account transfer/refund form must be completed and submitted to the Food Service Department Office.
If your child has a special dietary need or food allergy, contact the Food Service Department for the "Medical Plan of Care for School Food Service" form. It is also posted with the documents on the food services page and must be signed by a medical authority before substitutions can be made.

One thing to know: last minute menu changes are occurring frequently due to nationwide food supply chain issues, so the menus posted online may not always reflect what is served. Questions about a school's menu go to the Food Service Director.
