Fleetwood Area School District (FASD) is a public school district in the northeast section of Berks County, Pennsylvania. The district administrative offices are located at 801 North Richmond Street in Fleetwood Borough, and the district can be reached by phone at 610-944-8111. FASD covers more than thirty-nine square miles and serves approximately 2,200 students who live in Fleetwood Borough, Maidencreek Township, and Richmond Township. The district operates four school buildings along with a district-run cyber education program, and describes its mission as educating, inspiring, and empowering each student on their journey to excellence.
FASD organizes its schools into three instructional levels, with two elementary buildings feeding a single middle school and high school campus area.
Both elementary schools receive instructional coaching support and participate in Title I programming, as does the middle school. The placement of the middle school and high school within a short distance of one another on North Richmond Street allows the district to coordinate scheduling, transportation, and shared resources between the two secondary buildings.
Fleetwood Area High School offers 15 college courses on campus, giving students the opportunity to accumulate postsecondary credit before graduation. According to district figures, 74 percent of the class of 2023 planned to pursue post-secondary schooling. The district reports a graduation rate of 96 percent and an attendance rate of 93 percent.
Special education services are directed from the district offices, with a Supervisor of Special Education based at 407 North Richmond Street. The district also maintains a Gifted Education Plan approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education under Chapter 16, which governs programming for students identified as mentally gifted.
Federal programming is coordinated by Dr. Natalie Lytle and includes Title I academic support at Andrew Maier Elementary, Willow Creek Elementary, and the middle school, Title II educator quality initiatives, Title III supports for English learners, and Title IV funding directed toward well-rounded educational opportunities and technology.
The Fleetwood Virtual Academy (FVA) is the district's own cyber education program. It uses Edgenuity as the core online curriculum, with courses taught by either Edgenuity instructors or Fleetwood teachers. Each enrolled student receives a district-provided Chromebook, and students in kindergarten through grade five also receive additional printed materials to supplement online work.
Students may take some or all of their coursework through FVA while remaining enrolled in and connected to the Fleetwood Area School District. The program allows learners to work at their own pace while still accessing face-to-face support from district staff, participating in school activities, and graduating with a Fleetwood Area High School diploma. The district presents this local connection as the main practical difference between FVA and enrollment in an outside cyber charter school. The FVA platform also delivers summer school credit and coursework options for middle and high school students.
The district reports 46 sports opportunities with 758 student athletes participating, including competition within the Berks County Interscholastic Athletic Association (BCIAA). Athletics are overseen by the Director of Athletics, reachable at 610-944-8111, extension 20153. The districtwide music program draws 690 participating students across all school buildings, spanning instrumental and vocal offerings at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
FASD maintains a range of partnerships with local organizations and businesses. One of the more unusual arrangements is the district's relationship with the local YMCA, whose facility adjoins Willow Creek Elementary School. The fitness center is open to district students as well as to the broader community, creating a shared recreational resource on school grounds.
On-site student counseling is provided through a partnership with Concern, a local counseling agency that delivers services inside school buildings. This arrangement is intended to serve families who have difficulty scheduling appointments outside of the school day. The district also works with an active Ministerium, local businesses, the Chamber of Commerce, the Berks Business Education Coalition, and Fleetwood Area Community Organizations (FACO).
Student transportation is managed through the Business Office at 610-944-8111 (dial #4). The district maintains emergency dismissal procedures that stagger high school, middle school, and elementary bus runs so that students are released and transported in an orderly sequence. Food service across all buildings is overseen by the Director of Food Service, reachable at 610-944-8111 (dial #8).
School safety is handled by the Director of Safe Schools at 610-944-8111, extension 10201. The office oversees published threat assessment procedures, visitor sign-in and badge requirements at all buildings, and emergency management plans covering lock-down and evacuation scenarios.
Right to Know requests are handled by Right to Know Officer Dr. Greg M. Miller. Requests must be submitted using the official form, and anonymous requests are not fulfilled.
Prospective teachers apply through PAREAP, and support staff positions are posted for online application. Substitute teaching assignments are contracted through Substitute Teacher Service (STS), which can be reached at 717-391-7827 or 800-884-7827. The district Human Resources office can be contacted at 610-944-8111, extension 10211, or by email at FASDHR@fleetwoodasd.org. Fleetwood Area School District is an equal opportunity education institution and employer.
District offices are located at 801 North Richmond Street, Fleetwood, Pennsylvania 19522. General inquiries can be directed to 610-944-8111.
