Farmers Market Nutrition Vouchers for WIC Families

Maternal and Family Health Services runs WIC nutrition centers in 17 Pennsylvania counties, including Reading and greater Berks County, and gives people enrolled in WIC Farmers' Market Nutrition Vouchers along with their regular WIC food benefits.

The vouchers go to pregnant and postpartum women, infants who are 6 months and up, and children. Each participant receives vouchers valued at $20. WIC itself is for pregnant, postpartum and nursing individuals and families with children under 5 years old, and it continues through a child's 5th birthday. Many working families qualify, and step-parents, foster parents, grandparents and guardians can apply on behalf of a child.

The Farmers' Market vouchers come on top of the rest of WIC. Qualifying families can receive over $1000 a year in support: $96 to $99 for a child, $126 to $250 for women, and $145 to $300 for infants, depending on the exact food package. Women can get up to $47 per month just in fruits and vegetables, $52 if they are breastfeeding and $78 if they are breastfeeding multiples. WIC also includes access to a free nutritionist, tips for healthy meals, and pregnancy and breastfeeding support.

To start, call the MFHS call center at 1-866-942-8463 to find the closest WIC Nutrition Center to you and make an appointment. You can also fill out a pre-application online at pawic.com/OnlineApplication.aspx. A list of centers is at mfhs.org/locations.

WIC is funded by the USDA, and this institution is an equal opportunity provider. The page does not give the dates the Farmers' Market vouchers are handed out or which markets and farm stands accept them, so ask at your WIC appointment.
