Reproductive Health Care and Nurse-Family Partnership From MFHS
Maternal and Family Health Services, known as MFHS, offers confidential reproductive health care for you and your partner, and a separate free program that connects a pregnant person with a personal nurse. MFHS serves women, children and families across Eastern Pennsylvania.
Reproductive health care includes pregnancy testing, STD testing and treatment, birth control, emergency contraception, and complete gynecological care.
Cost depends on your age and income. Adolescents under 18 years of age can receive services for free. Adults who cannot afford to pay may be free, or pay on a sliding scale based on their income. MFHS will never turn someone away based on their ability to pay, and it accepts many private insurances.
To get started with reproductive health care, request an appointment using the "Request a Reproductive Heath Appointment" form at mfhs.org/do-i-qualify.
The Nurse-Family Partnership is a different MFHS program: a free program for low income prenatal mothers that connects you with a personal nurse to help guide you through your pregnancy and help you prepare to raise a healthy, happy baby. Income guidelines are 235% of the federal poverty level, and if you have WIC or Medical Assistance you are eligible. Enrollment is required during pregnancy. Earlier in pregnancy is preferred, ideally before 28 weeks, but enrollment can take place any time prior to delivery. You apply through the "Apply for NFP now" form at mfhs.org/do-i-qualify.
If you are not sure which program fits, call (570) 273-1288 to talk to a care navigator. The MFHS administration office is at 15 Public Square, Suite 600, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701, phone 570-826-1777, for general questions.
Clinic hours are not listed, and the pages do not say which offices provide these two programs. MFHS lists its offices at mfhs.org/locations, including a Reading and Greater Berks County group, so call the care navigator number to find out where you can be seen.
