Farmers Market Nutrition Program Checks From the Area Agency on Aging
The Berks County Area Agency on Aging offers Farmers Market Nutrition Program checks, which people who qualify can use to buy food from farmers. The program begins June 1st, and checks are available to eligible recipients while supplies last.
The page does not say who counts as an eligible recipient, how many checks a person receives, what they are worth, where they can be spent, or whether there is any cost, so ask the agency. As a department, the Area Agency on Aging serves Berks County residents over 60 and those with disabilities.
An application form is posted in English and in Spanish on the Aging department's page at berkspa.gov/departments/aging, along with a Rights and Responsibilities sheet in English and Spanish. The page does not say where to send the completed application, what to bring with it, or whether applications are taken in person.
For questions, the general number for the Area Agency on Aging is 610-478-6500. The department's office is at 400 E. Wyomissing Ave., Mohnton, PA 19540, and it lists office hours of Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The page does not say that checks are handed out at that office.
Because checks go out only while supplies last, it is worth asking early in the season.
