Pediatric Care for Kids Through Age 18 From Reading Hospital

Reading Hospital Children's Health Center is a pediatric office in West Reading that cares for children from newborn through age 18. Its stated mission is to provide compassionate, accessible, appropriate, and comprehensive care to pediatric patients regardless of ethnic or financial status.

The center is meant to be your child's first stop for regular and preventive care. Services include physical exams such as well-child visits and school, sports and driver physicals, preventive medicine, immunizations, newborn care and lactation consultation, care for multiple and premature births, hearing and vision screening, developmental issues and behavioral evaluations, acute and chronic illnesses, nutritional guidance, adolescent concerns, weight management care, and referrals to specialists when needed. Same-day sick visits are offered for things like ear infections, sore throat, colds and rashes. The center also manages chronic concerns such as asthma, ADHD, constipation and belly pain, and Reading Hospital has earned The Joint Commission Certification of Distinction in Pediatric Asthma.

The office is at 206 S 6th Ave, West Reading, PA 19611-1411. The phone number is (484)628-5437. Hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, and the office is closed Saturday and Sunday. Hours may be affected by holidays.

Call during office hours for general questions or advice, or to schedule an appointment. After hours you can call to speak to the on-call physician if you are worried your child is having a medical emergency and are unsure whether to go to the emergency department; the on-call providers cannot schedule appointments, so you would call the following morning when the office reopens. Non-urgent questions, follow-ups and photos can be sent through MyTowerHealth, but those messages are reviewed every 24 to 72 hours. For refills of controlled substance prescriptions such as ADHD medications, allow three to five days and place the request at least five days before running out. If your child is having a true medical emergency, call the office or 911.

Care is provided from birth to 18 years of age. Around 17 years of age, staff begin helping your young adult take the lead on their own health concerns, and you can call 1-833-34-TOWER to set up a new patient appointment at Family Medicine or Internal Medicine offices in the area. For a teen daughter who needs a gynecologist, the center recommends Tower Health Medical Group Obstetrics & Gynecology - Wyomissing Reed Ave Health at 610-898-7000.
