County-Funded Mental Health Treatment and Support in Berks County
The Berks County Mental Health/Developmental Disabilities Program pays for a range of mental health treatment and support services for people in Berks County, from counseling and partial hospitalization to case management and housing supports. The county does not treat people in its own office; it administers these services through its contracted provider network.
For adults, the county-funded services are outpatient treatment, outpatient dual diagnosis treatment, partial hospitalization services, acute inpatient hospitalization services including 302 commitments, assertive community treatment, state hospital admissions, CHIPP (Community Hospital Integration Program Project), and psychiatric rehabilitation. For children and adolescents, the services are outpatient counseling, the Student Assistance Program, family based services, and partial hospitalization. The list also includes vocational and employment services, vocational rehabilitation, crisis intervention services, and non-clinical services such as social rehabilitation, respite and representative payee. Case management comes in three forms: administrative case management, blended case management and forensic case management. Housing supports include CRR (Community Residential Rehabilitation) and supported living residential services.

If you do not have insurance, contact Service Access & Management at 610-236-0530 and ask to speak with the Mental Health Intake Department. To receive mental health services without insurance, you must obtain authorization through Service Access and Management first.
If you have Medical Assistance (Medicaid), your coverage is handled through the HealthChoices program rather than through this county-funded route, and the county points you to its HealthChoices information instead.
