Help Connecting Children and Teens to Services From Berks County Mental Health
The Child and Adolescent Service System Program, known as CASSP, is run through the Berks County Mental Health / Developmental Disabilities Program and helps children, adolescents and their families gain access to needed services. Those services are planned together with the child or adolescent, the family, the child serving systems and other agencies.
The child serving systems CASSP works across are mental health, developmental disabilities, child welfare, juvenile justice, drug and alcohol, education services and vocational rehabilitation. The program is built on principles for services for children and adolescents with or at risk of developing severe emotional disorders and their families, and the county's aim is a coordinated system of services for children, adolescents and families with needs that cross more than one system. Services are meant to be child-centered, family-focused, delivered in the child's home community when possible, planned with all the systems involved in the child's life, culturally competent, and as least restrictive and least intrusive as possible.
The work is carried out by the Berks County CASSP Coordinator, who is supported by the Berks County MH/DD Program, Berks County HealthChoices and The Council on Chemical Abuse. The Coordinator serves as a focal point for building and maintaining a network of individuals, agencies, providers and community groups interested in improving services to children, adolescents and their families.
To reach the Coordinator, call the Berks County MH/DD Program at 610-478-3271. The Coordinator works out of the MH/DD Program office at 633 Court Street, 8th Floor, Reading, PA. Department hours may vary; the building is open 8 AM to 5 PM and is closed on holidays.

Anyone interested in services for children can attend the CASSP Advisory Committee meetings, which are held four times a year. The committee is made up of family members and representatives from the child serving systems and reflects the community's cultural diversity.
