Care at Home In-Home Help for Older Adults in Berks County
Care at Home is the Berks County Area Agency on Aging program that arranges in-home services and other supports so older adults can stay independent in their own homes.
The supportive services include personal care to aid in basic daily needs such as bathing and dressing; help with preparing meals, laundry, shopping or other household chores; home health services, Personal Emergency Response Systems, medical equipment and supplies; home delivered meals; home modifications to make a home more accessible; and Adult Daily Living Centers that provide a safe environment for older adults who are unable to be left alone.
Eligibility for program funded services is decided through an assessment. An Area Agency on Aging assessor conducts the assessment in the individual's home. At that visit, care needs are determined and financial resources are reviewed.
Families or spouses with caregiving responsibilities for an older adult can also use the Caregiver Support Program, which offers a variety of services, including respite and limited financial assistance, to ease the task of providing care. The Area Agency on Aging is at 400 E. Wyomissing Ave., Mohnton, PA 19540. Its general number is 610-478-6500 and its hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with 24 hour emergency service. The agency serves county residents, with comprehensive services for the over 60 population.
