Veterinary Assistant – Reading, PA

Humane Veterinary Hospitals seeks a Veterinary Assistant whose role covers animal care and treatment, customer service, and hospital cleanliness, assisting technicians and doctors to maintain a high standard of care.

Duties include:

• animal restraint
• assisting in x-ray
• maintaining safety protocols when handling animals
• and assisting technicians and doctors as asked.

Cleanliness duties include:

• vacuuming
• mopping
• changing garbage
• dusting
• cleaning and stocking exam rooms after appointments
• following daily, weekly, and monthly task lists
• cleaning and sterilizing surgical equipment
• wrapping surgical packs and running the autoclave
• cleaning surgery tables and trays
• cleaning and maintaining sinks and bathrooms
• laundry
• kennel/cage cleaning
• maintaining proper cleaning solution dilutions and stock of supplies
• cleaning windows and doors
• replenishing supplies such as paper towels and garbage bags
• cleaning the kitchen/break area
• knowing patient isolation protocols
• and general upkeep of the hospital's sights, smells, and sounds.

In emergencies, the assistant may serve as the 'fetch' person, requiring strong knowledge of supply locations and the ability to respond calmly and quickly, especially around clients.

Physical requirements:

• lifting objects or pets of at least 30 lbs
• controlling large, anxious, or angry pets
• and standing/walking, bending, and stooping for up to 10 hours per day with adequate breaks.

Working conditions involve prolonged exposure to aqueous cleaning
