About the program
Rangers lead a short evening walk at Hopewell Furnace, where the historic ironmaking village sets the scene for spooky stories and chilling tales told by lantern light. The stories echo the kinds of legends that Hopewell residents once shared. Some content may be frightening for young children, so parents may want to consider that before booking.
The program runs about half an hour and takes place entirely outdoors. Expect to walk on gravel and grass, with uphill and downhill slopes along the way. Wear sturdy shoes, dress for the weather, and bring a flashlight. Water and restrooms are available at the park Visitor Center before and after the walk. The program may be cancelled in bad weather.
Registration is required because capacity is limited, and timeslots go first come, first served. To request a spot, email the park at hofu_superintendent@nps.gov with your first and second choice of start time, your name, and how many people are in your group. The park replies to confirm. Check in at the Visitor Center fifteen minutes before your confirmed start time.
