At this hands-on program from Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, visitors step into the role of a furnace molder. You work through the process of making a sand mold and learn how molding fit into the daily work of the ironmaking operation. Staff explain why molding was a skilled craft and how it was learned and passed along.

The program runs in the Cast House inside the historic furnace complex and lasts about an hour. It is family friendly and open to visitors of mixed ages. Sessions begin promptly, so allow time to walk downhill from the Visitor Center, and arrive early because space is limited. Wear shoes and clothes you do not mind getting dusty.

No sign-up is listed. Check the schedule panel for the current days and times, and see the park's page for visit details before you go.
