About the program
A ranger leads this nature journaling session at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site. You take a short walk, get brief instruction, then try simple journaling techniques: noticing what is around you and recording it in a few words or quick sketches. No art experience is needed, and the focus is on slowing down and observing closely.
The program suits ages 8 and up, so kids, teens and adults can all take part. Bring a notebook and a pen or pencil if you can; a small amount of supplies will be on hand to borrow. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy walking or hiking shoes. Pets are welcome on leashes.
Groups meet at the Visitor Center in the morning. There is no water or restroom at the program site, so plan to use the facilities at the Visitor Center before and after. Bad weather can cancel the session, so check the park's event page for updates before you head out.
