Hopewell Furnace was an iron-making operation, but it was also a place where families lived and worked. On Living History Day, staff and volunteers in historical clothing spread out across the historic area to show how that daily work was done. Look for spinning, open-hearth cooking, blacksmithing, letter writing, candle making, dyeing, quilting and baking in the bake oven.

There are hands-on activities to try, and you can meet the newest animals in the park's flock and learn why livestock mattered to the Hopewell community. An aluminum molding and casting demonstration gives a sense of the industry that kept the village going.

Activities and demonstrations happen in different spots throughout the historic area, so plan to walk around and explore rather than stay in one place. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather, since much of the day is outdoors. No registration is needed; check the schedule panel for the date and hours, or see the park's event page for details.
