Blue Mountain Killer: Matthias Schaumboch Author Talk
Starts Tue, Oct 27, 6:00 PM · Free

About the class
Spring Township Library hosts an author event about Matthias Schaumboch, a figure from one of the Blue Mountain region's darkest stories. In the mid-19th century, Schaumboch and his wife bought a cottage in the Blue Mountains of southeastern Pennsylvania and ran a tavern along the road linking Philadelphia and Reading with the northern and western parts of the state.
The talk follows what came next. Reports claim that on his deathbed Schaumboch confessed to killing as many as 14 people and scattering their remains through the heavily forested mountain. Gruesome versions of his reign of terror have been passed down and likely embellished across generations. The same peak is known today as Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, an internationally known site for studying and observing raptor migration. The program is based on an allegedly true story.
The program is free and suits adults and older listeners with an interest in Pennsylvania history and folklore. It takes place at the library at 78C Commerce Drive in Wyomissing. Call the library at (610) 373-9888 for details.
