The Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center is the starting point for the Civil War battlefield in Gettysburg, PA. Entry, parking and the battlefield are free; the film, Cyclorama painting and museum take a ticket.

One ticket covers the 22-minute film A New Birth of Freedom, the 360-degree Gettysburg Cyclorama painting of Pickett's Charge, first shown in 1884, and the Gettysburg Museum of the American Civil War; the site says to allow two hours. A Licensed Battlefield Guide then takes you across the 6,000-acre battlefield by bus or in your own car. The foundation calls fall the ideal season, with thinner crowds and color on the fields.

Before you go

Reserve timed tickets online and pick them up at Will Call 15 minutes before your show. Parking is free. Only bottled water comes inside; coolers, wheeled bags and luggage are prohibited. Strollers park in the lobby during the film and Cyclorama. The film has sudden loud battle sounds.
