Indian Echo Caverns
Hummelstown, PA · 1 hour 16 minutes from Reading · $20 to $50 a person

Plan the day
Indian Echo Caverns is a show cave on Swatara Creek in Hummelstown, PA, open to the public since 1929. The grounds, called Echo Dell, add gem mining at Gem Mill Junction, a petting barnyard, a playground and free picnic areas.
A guided 45-minute walk through a cave that holds 52 degrees all year, which makes it a July cool-down and a January warm-up alike. It has been a show cave since 1929 and is still family-owned, and the grounds add a free Discovery Barnyard petting zoo, a playground and free picnic areas, plus Gem Mill Junction for sifting out amethyst, jasper and agate when the weather is above freezing. Dogs can come if you carry them.
Before you go
Wear closed-toe shoes; the tour has stairs inside and outside the cave, so no strollers or wheelchairs. Backpacks are not allowed in the cave. Bring a sweatshirt for 52 degrees. Dogs are welcome on the tour only if held the whole way, no leashes. Parking is free. Book online or call (717) 566-8131.
Coming up
Gem Mill Junction gem mining runs through the fall whenever the weather is above 32 degrees and closes November through March.
