Plan the day
No. 9 Mine Museum is a guided coal mine tour and museum in Lansford, PA.
A rail car carries you 1,600 feet into the mountain, then a guide walks you another 600 feet through the old workings, past the mule-way and a miners' hospital cut into the rock, at a steady 50 degrees. The whole tour takes about an hour and runs Wednesday through Sunday from April to November, so the fall weeks before the winter closing are the last chance until spring.
Before you go
Bring a light jacket or sweater and closed-toe shoes; the mine holds at 50 degrees. Tours leave on the hour from 11 to 3, Wednesday through Sunday. Groups of 20 or more need a reservation and pay a lower rate.
Coming up
