The U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center is a free Army museum and archive in Carlisle, PA, with galleries and the Army Heritage Trail, about a mile of outdoor exhibits and large artifacts covering nearly every era of Army history.

The trail is built so you walk into each period: about a mile of outdoor exhibits and large artifacts, from a replica of Redoubt Number 10 from the Battle of Yorktown onward, open dawn to dusk seven days a week, with the trail buildings open Monday to Saturday. Admission and parking are free, and the galleries are open on Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Veterans Day.

Plan a Monday to Saturday visit; the Army's page lists the galleries closed on Sunday. The trail is about a mile of outdoor walking and stays open dawn to dusk even when the buildings are shut.
