The Yuengling brewery on Mahantongo Street in Pottsville, PA is the one the company calls America's Oldest Brewery, and it gives free guided tours Monday through Saturday.

The tour runs about an hour through the working brewery, takes in roughly 160 stairs, uneven and sometimes wet floors and changing temperatures, and ends with beer sampling for guests 21 and over with ID. Tours leave every hour on weekdays and every half hour on Saturdays from March through December, and they are free for all ages. The gift shop is open Monday through Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm.

Before you go

Closed shoes are required (no sandals, Crocs or flip flops). The tour has about 160 stairs and is not wheelchair accessible; no strollers or pets. Street and meter parking, plus a paved lot behind the gift shop at 5th and Norwegian Streets. Groups of 25 or more should call ahead.
