About the event
GoggleWorks Center for the Arts welcomes visitors to a Second Sunday Gallery Reception for Andrea Finch: What the Bees See, an exhibition of sculptural textile work in the Schmidt Gallery on the second floor. The show takes its cues from gardens, botanical forms, and the natural world, with pieces that step off the wall and into three dimensions.
Finch began as a traditional quilt maker and has since carried that craft beyond the flat surface. Working with new, vintage, reclaimed, and repurposed fabrics, she layers hand-cut textiles with dense machine quilting, stitching, stuffing, and wire, building colorful sculptures of flowers, leaves, and weeds that look as though they float. The results invite a closer look at details in nature most of us pass by, and they open conversations about protecting local flora and fauna.
The afternoon is a chance to walk through a vibrant, tactile garden shaped by memory, family, community, and the environment, and to spend time with fiber art in a relaxed setting. Anyone curious about quilting, sculpture, or the pollinators in their own backyard will find something to linger over.
