The arboretum education series turns its attention to farming abroad with a morning talk from Andrew Gerlicz of the University of Vermont Institute of Agroecology. His work centers on indigenous farmers, soil health, and sustainable growing practices that respond to the challenges facing small coffee and cacao producers.
That focus grows out of a research community with decades of experience collaborating with smallholder coffee farmers and cooperatives in Latin America, where science is integrated with local and Indigenous knowledge to shape practice on the ground. It is a chance for gardeners, coffee and chocolate lovers, and anyone curious about where food comes from to hear how soil care and farming decisions play out for growers thousands of miles away.
The program takes place in the museum auditorium and runs about an hour, with time built around the presentation for questions from the audience. No registration is required, so visitors can simply arrive and take a seat.
