The Art History Short Course brings a four-week look at art history to the Reading Public Museum, with this session meeting on the afternoon of October 27. Teaching duties are shared by Scott Schweigert, Curator of Art and Civilizations, and Geoff Fleming, Executive Director and CEO, so each meeting draws on both curatorial and institutional perspectives on how art gets studied, collected, and displayed.

Schweigert has led the art program at the museum for years and specializes in European art of the seventeenth century. His exhibition work has covered subjects including American Impressionism, James McNeill Whistler, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Spanish Colonial painting, and contemporary Latin American art, much of it drawn from a collection that has been anchored by American art since 1913.

The course is part of the museum's adult programming, and further details are still being announced. Attendees can sign up for the full four weeks or come to a single class, which makes it easy to fit around a busy fall schedule. The museum sits on Museum Road in Reading alongside the Neag Planetarium and its arboretum, so there is plenty to see before or after class.
