WhereReading Public Library, 100 N. 5th Street, Reading

The Reading Public Library hosts an afternoon built around the songs of the Beatles, led by Doug Morris. Expect a singalong session covering about twenty five songs, with titles such as "Let It Be," "Across the Universe," "Hey Jude," "Love Me Do," "Something," "Yellow Submarine," and "The Long and Winding Road."

Between the music, Morris shares background on the band and the ways they stretched what recorded popular music could sound like, drawing on rock and roll, folk, soul, rhythm and blues, classical touches, and studio experiments. Images and lyrics are projected on screen, so anyone who wants to join in can follow along without knowing every word by heart.

Morris holds a Ph.D. from Penn State and teaches critical pedagogy at West Chester University. A former jazz guitarist, he sings, composes, and performs what he calls people's songs, and he has written about Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and Bruce Springsteen in that same tradition.
