Berks County residents can clear out household hazardous materials at the Ag Center in Leesport this fall. The collection runs by appointment only, with paper shredding offered alongside the hazardous waste drop-off.

This is the practical way to handle the things that should not go in a curbside bin: old paints and solvents, pesticides, automotive fluids, batteries, and similar leftovers from the garage or basement. Bringing documents for secure on-site shredding at the same stop makes it an easy single trip.

Appointments are required and can be registered through the Berks County Solid Waste Authority at www.co.berks.pa.us/swa. Questions can be directed to 610-478-6362. Plan to arrive within your scheduled window, and pack items securely in the trunk or cargo area so staff can unload them quickly.
