About the event
The Berks County Genealogical Society opens its Genealogy 101 series with a first Saturday session led by Betty Sustello, designed for anyone curious about where their family came from and unsure where to begin. The four class series covers starting a family tree, organizing the papers and photos you already have, working with census records and vital documents, and building an online research strategy, including free websites that can move your search forward.
Sessions meet in the society's space on the fourth floor of the GoggleWorks, where participants also get access to Ancestry.com and FamilySearch, plus extra time in the room to dig into their own research before and after class. The library there holds an extensive collection of books and documents tied to family, community, and church heritage, and it is staffed by volunteers with hands on experience.
Bring whatever names, dates, and family stories you have collected so far. Free parking is available in the lot behind the building, with entrances from North 2nd Street, North 3rd Street, and Walnut Street.
