About the event
The Berks County Genealogical Society welcomes anyone curious about their family history to Genealogy 101, a Saturday class series led by Betty Sustello in Room 413 on the fourth floor at GoggleWorks in Reading. Sessions are built for beginners, so no prior research experience is needed to follow along.
The curriculum covers the practical skills that get a family tree started and keep it growing: setting up your tree, organizing the papers and photos you already have, working with census records and vital documents, and making the most of online research strategies. Instruction also points toward free websites that can help you trace ancestors without added cost.
Doors open at noon and the room stays available until 4 p.m. for independent research, with access to Ancestry.com and FamilySearch during that time. It is a good chance to bring your questions, compare notes with other local researchers, and put the day's lesson to work while it is fresh.
