About the event
Historic Crystal Cave opens after dark for a lantern-lit walk through its passages, and the tour follows the route as visitors would have experienced it in the 1870s. Guides in Victorian dress carry hand-held lanterns and lead the way by their glow, so the formations appear much as they did to the cave's earliest visitors.
Along the route, guides share the spooky and unexplained happenings reported inside the cave and on the surrounding grounds during the 1800s, plus accounts from more recent years. These are stories that do not turn up on the standard daytime cavern tour, which makes the evening worth doing even for people who know the cave well.
The tour is built as family entertainment, with atmosphere rather than scares doing the work. Everyone who comes along takes home a souvenir Crystal Cave lantern. Keep in mind that the cave is underground and naturally cool, and its formations mean the route is not wheelchair accessible, so sturdy shoes and a light jacket are good ideas.
Hosted by Crystal Cave on BerksConnect.
