About the event
Historic Crystal Cave in Kutztown opens its underground passages after dark for a lantern led walk through the site's older and stranger history. Guides in Victorian dress lead the way with hand held lanterns, recreating the cave tour as visitors would have experienced it in the 1870s and sharing the ghostly happenings reported inside the cave and across the grounds during the 1800s.
The stories on this route are not part of the regular daytime cavern tour, so even longtime visitors will hear something new. Lantern glow changes how the formations look and how the passages feel, and the evening leans into the eerie side of a place that has been drawing curious travelers since it was discovered in 1871.
Each visitor takes home a souvenir Crystal Cave lantern. Reservations are required. Please note that the cave is not wheelchair accessible because of the natural underground terrain, and comfortable shoes and a light jacket are a good idea for the cooler air below ground.
Hosted by Crystal Cave on BerksConnect.
