About the event
Historic Crystal Cave lowers the lights for an evening walk through its passages by hand-held lantern. Guides in Victorian dress lead the tour much as it would have been given in the 1870s, pointing out formations the way early visitors first saw them and sharing the cave's older stories rather than the script used on daytime cavern tours.
Along the way you will hear about the curious and unexplained incidents reported inside the cave and on the surrounding grounds during the 1800s, along with ghostly encounters described by visitors and staff closer to the present day. The slower pace and the glow of lantern light give the underground rooms a different character than they have by daylight.
The tour is built for a mix of ages and works well as an October outing for families, history buffs, and anyone curious about the darker side of Berks County's best known natural attraction. Each guest takes home a souvenir Crystal Cave lantern. Because of the underground formations and the natural terrain, the cave is not wheelchair accessible.
